About

30 dancers. 13 hours. One weekend that's going to change how you move.

Jo Hoffberg has been running partner dance intensives since 2015, and solo dance intensives since 2021. What started as extra pandemic time to dig into her own solo dancing turned into something bigger - a genuinely high-quality environment where a partnered dancer can actually train their solo. Previous partner-focused workshops were all about partner dynamics - how to speak and listen to a partner, mostly. Going deeper this time, Jo's digging into what actually makes a great dancer: rhythm, body awareness, musicality, dynamics, and improvisation. This small group, TRAINING WEEKEND INTENSIVE is about connecting to your body, learning how to train without a partner, and finding what makes your style + voice yours. This weekend is ideal for the dancer: -looking to level up the quality of their movement (ehhem... to improve your partner movement, you also need to work on the solo movement) -who loves a good party, but is here for a highly-focused training weekend -ready to be challenged in a learning environment that's both highly-structured AND freeform (yup, a balance of both) -who's ready to push themselves to get the most out of the weekend (dedicated learners ftw!!!) Level: intermediate and up (brave beginners welcome) — since the pandemic, Jo's taught mostly All Levels classes (thanks, Zoom) and can absolutely dial up the difficulty if for some wild reason you're not feeling challenged :D What this weekend is NOT: -a "Solo Jazz Weekend" — jazz steps show up as reference points, but this is about general movement, body awareness and control, rhythm, how to use your arms, etc. There might even be some partnering thrown in! Short version: it's more than "just" a solo jazz weekend. -choreography-based — a classic jazz routine might show up as a foundation, but the weekend is about exploration, not memorize-and-perform (Jo loves that stuff too, just not this weekend). Is this you? :D — The Weekend: (1) FRIDAY - 3 Hours 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm - Weekend Foundations (2) SATURDAY - 5 hours 1:00pm - 3:00 pm - Kick Steps - Charleston inspired 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm - Q&A + Practice time - lunch - 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm - Classic Jazz Steps + Transitions 6:30pm - 7:00 pm - Q&A + Practice time (3) SUNDAY - 5 hours 11:00 am - 1:00 pm - Bounce, Arms, and Hips 1:00pm - 1:30 pm - Q&A - lunch - 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm - Pulling it All Together - The Finishing Touches 4:30 pm - 5:00 pm - Wrap Up SUNDAY EVENING — not required, but we typically find a spot for dinner, drinks, and dancing to non-swing music. Because if you can dance, you can dance to anything — and that's the whole point. Cost: $225 Cap: 35 dancers Registration: forms.gle/C2q6zfTtgcg6ZTpZ6 Questions?
