This routine is a solo choreography served as the regular warmup routine for Whitey's Lindy Hoppers before they moved on to more challenging routines.
The name Mama Stew is named after Louise "Mama Lou" Parks who was a dancer who played a crucial role in keeping Lindy Hop alive after the Savoy Ballroom closed in 1958. She worked in the coatroom at the Savoy and quickly became a prominent dancer at the venue. Her professional dance company from 1961 to 1990 preserved the legacy of vernacular jazz dances such as the Lindy Hop.
