Jazz Cats Social - Dean Thiessen and the Good Apples

Whether you feel like swinging out, joining the jazz jam, or just tapping your toes and enjoying the show, we welcome you to spend a fun and inclusive evening with the Uptown Swing Collective, in partnership with the City of New Westminster. Live music by the Dean Thiessen and the Good Apples. Band breaks: Get Jazzed! amateur swing jazz bands Dance lesson by: This event is a jazz jam! Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and sit in with the band for a song or two. The Everyone Can Jazz Jam (ECJJ) songbook will be used for the jazz jam. Printed copies will be available at Jazz Cats for you to use. The leadsheets are available in C Bb and Eb. If you would like to practice, join us on Tuesday evenings for ECJJ. uptownswingcollective.ca Jazz Jam will take place during the first set; jammers are asked to arrive at 6:45 to sign up and liaise with our jam coordinator and the band leader. Spots are limited, so if you do not arrive early there is a chance you will not be able to play. Jazz Jammers must purchase tickets to Jazz Cats Social. Tickets are available online only at Advance Price until 11:59pm on the day before the event. On event day, Regular Price applies online and at the door until capacity has been reached. As a registered non-profit society in BC, we work to keep prices as low as possible for our community while paying musicians a fair wage. We aim to provide quality live music and sound in a welcoming space to dance, listen, and connect. Community connections happen on the dance floor, at the coffee bar, around the puzzle table, or at the cookie table. Fee includes light refreshments, new activities in the lounge each month, and introductory Lindy Hop dance lesson (partner not required). *No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. New Westminster is included in Evo’s Metro Vancouver Home Zone. There is a small parking lot available off Eighth St and ample street parking surrounding Moody Park. Health and Safety Policy: Please stay home if you are not feeling well. We expect everyone will do their part to keep our community safe and healthy by maintaining good hygiene with regular hand-washing, and being mindful that comfort levels will vary from person to person. Mask-wearing is optional; please be considerate of others’ decision to mask or not, and if you would like to dance with someone who is wearing a mask, please offer to wear a mask yourself, as a courtesy to them. This is not a licensed event so please do not bring your adult beverages or snacks into Jazz Cats Social. Refund policy: If you have purchased tickets and are no longer able to attend the event, please reach out to us by 1pm on the day of the event to transfer your ticket(s) to another month or request a refund.
