Blues Dance Saturday Halloween Workshop + Party

SCHEDULE 14:15 Doors open 14:30-18:00 Workshop 3 h (with a break) 19:00-22:30 Halloween theme party with LIVE MUSIC by Little Willie Mehto MUSIC - Proud to present: Little Willie Mehto! Little Willie Mehto (vocals, harmonica, cigar box guitar, dobro) is known as one of Finland’s foremost interpreters of Delta Blues and roots music. His influences include artists such as Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Eddie Cusick. His mastery of the slide guitar and dobro, on the other hand, brings to mind legends like Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, R.L. Burnside, and Bukka White. Little Willie Mehto represented Finland at the 2024 European Blues Challenge and at the 2025 Memphis International Blues Challenge and has performed at numerous blues events in Finland and Europe including some previous Blues dance events such as The Grind. DJs McCranky and Bluebird will keep you on the dance floor during live music breaks! DANCE WORKSHOP: Dynamics and Drama! We will explore different ways to add dynamics into your blues dancing, whether it's hitting those breaks and final notes with style, adding some dips, or playing with levels, shapes and tempo. We'll work across a range of tempos, including some faster ones. Level: Min. 1 year of partnered blues dance experience expected from all workshop participants. You should be able to partner dance to different blues music tempos and styles, be comfortable with different connections (open, close embrace etc.), and know some basic blues dance vocabulary. Teachers: Mac and Arja THEME: Halloween!! Dress up according to the Halloween theme (or come as you are)! WHAT TO BRING: Water bottle, comfortable dance shoes (no outside shoes allowed on the dance floor!), change of clothes after the workshop, voluntary: Halloween costume, fan, snacks. Some snacks are provided by the organizers. There is a small unisex dressing area (behind a curtain) and a small bathroom, but no shower.
