Slow Balboa Weekend 2027

This year’s event will have 2 separate track levels with 6 hours of classes each, and 3 nights of social dancing, including live music on Friday and Saturday night! Registration will open in the fall (date TBD) and capacity is limited. Keep an eye on this page for updates so you don’t miss out. What is Slow Balboa? Slow Bal, or Slow Balboa, is a close embrace swing dance from the 1940s. You dance it to the slow jazz music of that time. It is a playful and above all elegant dance, influenced by historic dancers Dean and Nancy Raftery and Ray Cunningham. Slow Bal is danced in close embrace (chest-to-chest.) If you are not comfortable with this proximity then this may not be the dance for you. That being said, each person in a partnership helps to create a comfortable embrace, and consent is still required.
